Dr. Joy V. Poskozim is proud to serve Lincolnwood and the NW side of Chicago through integrative family dentistry. At Joyful Dental Care, we understand that dentistry is more than just fixing teeth; it is building relationships and creating an environment where everyone can feel comfortable receiving dental care.
We have incorporated oral appliances for mild and moderate sleep apnea, dental laser therapy, quality dental care and patient compliance; creating a positive dental experience for the entire family. We also can come to you in the case of being house-bound!
Many dental procedures can be performed at home. These include:
1) Dental cleanings. We brush our patients’ teeth with a toothbrush and toothpaste at the end!
2) Exams. These include oral cancer screenings with a portable screening device known as Velscope. http://www.velscope.com/
a) exams for seniors especially focus on dry mouth, since dry mouth causes so many problems from bad breath to an increase in cavities.
2) X-rays. This is done with a portable dental x-ray device known as a NOMAD. X-rays are taken at the home, then developed back at the office.
3) Simple extractions. Patients on blood thinners and/or high blood pressure medications would need a written permission note from their physician, but as long as a care-giver is with them at time of the appointment to take care of them when done, instruments can be brought to them!
4) Mouthguards. A lot of dementia medications cause patients to unnecessarily grind/clench their teeth. Impressions can be taken anywhere.
5) Complete and partial dentures. Impressions, try-ins, and adjustments can be done at home.
6) Denture and partial denture repairs. These can also be done at home. Sometimes the denture has to be repaired at a lab, but the denture is taken and brought back to the patient at home.
7) Implant-retained overdentures. The implants have to be done at a dental office, but their current denture can be retro-fitted to their new implant(s) at home.

Dr. Joy Poskozim, DDS, PC
Dr. Joy Poskozim wanted to be a dentist in the eighth grade when she had her braces. She was fascinated by her teeth moving into place to have a nice smile! It took 3.5 years, but once they were off, she knew dentistry was for her. The oldest of four, Dr. Poskozim grew up in Park Ridge and graduated from Maine South in 1990. She then attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI because this college had a dental school on campus. Joy sat in one dental class and was hooked. New York University College of Dentistry became the school for her, staying in New York City for 6 years. She completed a General Practice Residency in 2000 at Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, then worked in Manhattan for one year. After working at various general dental practices in the Chicago land area for two years, she settled at a family practice in LakeView for four years as a cosmetic dental associate. In 2006, Dr. Poskozim found a practice in the Sauganash area of Chicago on the Northwest Side.

What is it that you want from your smile? Because we treat one patient at a time, you can trust that our staff goes out of their way to make sure you feel welcomed and listened to.
What are the top 3 treatments that you focus on?
One cannot build a house in sand. This applies to dentistry with the supporting structures of the teeth: gums and bone. I stress the importance of overall health, including screening for sleep apnea, laser treatment to reduce the bacteria that causes gum disease, and saliva testing to provide an earlier and more specific diagnosis of gum disease before tooth pain or loss.
What are you proud of in your practice?
We provide a calm and relaxed environment for patients who may feel anxious about treatment or are phobic of dentists. We will do all we can to relieve you of any anxiety or fear that you may be experiencing.
Which cases do you enjoy treating? Why?
I got into dentistry because of my unhappy smile. I thoroughly enjoy helping people feel good about their smiles, performing individual procedures to achieve what they are looking for -- happy, healthy smiles!

I had an absolutely fantastic experience at Joyful Dental with Diane, Eve, and Dr. Cris! From the moment I stepped into the clinic, I felt warmly welcomed and cared for by the entire team. Diane at the front desk was incredibly friendly and efficient. She greeted me with a bright smile and handled all the paperwork and scheduling effortlessly. Her warm demeanor immediately put me at ease, making the check-in process a breeze. Eve, the dental hygienist, was exceptional in her work. She was gentle yet thorough during the cleaning, making sure I was comfortable throughout the entire process. She took the time to explain the importance of oral hygiene and provided valuable tips for maintaining healthy teeth and gums. I left feeling confident that my dental health was in good hands. And last but not least, Dr. Cris was simply outstanding! He took the time to listen to my concerns and answered all my questions with patience and expertise. His professional demeanor and friendly approach made me feel reassured and confident in his care. He performed a thorough examination, and I could tell that he genuinely cared about my oral health and overall well-being. The atmosphere at Joyful Dental was indeed joyful! I worked with Dr Christian Caicedo but also met with Dr Joy while she was working the front desk herself! Excellent service overall. Easy to book. Paid attention to and addressed all my questions and concerns. Dr Caidedo helped me come up with a treatment plan tailored to my needs. Great interpersonal skills all around.
