Alec Lupovici is my dentist and he is great. Elena is my favorite dental technician/hygenist? After having my widsom teth out many years ago I experienced high anxiety about going to the dentist. Queen Street Dental care was fantastic about taking the time needed to help me feel comfortable and not scared about having dental work done. All of the ladies at the front are nice and helpful.

When it comes to my health, I'm a loyal customer. I make it a rule to stick with my healthcare practitioners until they retire, but it was high time that I needed a new dentist. His work was good but his hours didn't mesh with mine nor was his location. I put the word out to my friends and one of them referred me to Queen Street Dental Care. The clinic is very big and clean, and they cover all of the basics regarding preventative dental care. They have convenient hours and they're located right on the subway line so if I ever move or change employer, they're easily accessible. My dentist is Dr. Cheryl Greene who came in for a few minutes, checked my teeth out, and gave me her stamp of approval. But it was my hygienist who did the prep work and cleaning, and with whom I spent more time talking to and getting to know. It makes me think that I should book my future appointments with the hygienist instead of the dentist and save a few dollars. But it was my first visit and so relationships have to be built over time. My overall impression was good and found everyone to be friendly. Plus their location and hours are what makes them so attractive for me and one of the main reasons why I'll return in the future.

I went to this place for 25 years. The original dentist I had (Gail or Gayle Neeteson) was fabulous but then she had children and worked part time for quite awhile; eventually she left or (?) they squeezed her out. The hygienists were very good, including Elena. After Gayle left, I was switched from dentist to dentist, including one of the dentists complained about in other reviews. Once, the senior dentist came into see me for a quick check and he seemed to be a bit pushy as to what I needed done (he proposed a crown). I didn't like the pushiness and to date (10 years later?) I've not had to get that work done. The last time I had a complete check up (1 1/2 years ago), the dentist looked at my teeth for well under 5 minutes. Everything else was done by the hygienist, then I got a $180 bill. This summer, a tooth cracked. The dentist I got (Azawi? a fellow from Iraq) told me I needed 2 crowns and a bridge in addition to needing the tooth extracted immediately. He did not explain anything about the latter procedure; I mentioned that I am in the process of job interviews so a gap in my mouth would be awful but he just stared at me. He DID impart a sense of real urgency. He didn't seem interested in explaining anything. I had to phone back 3 times and even then, I misinterpreted the process and options (the receptionists tried to explain it to me). During my visit, Dr Azawi pulled on the broken tooth and the back half fell off, right down to the gym. He put a temp cover over the whole in my gum; the cover fell off 3 weeks later (i was avoiding proceeding, due to the $3000 quote and fear over the procedure); I came back in after it fell off and he warned that it would fall off again; it DID, the next day, "strangely enough". I then found another dentist through a friend. He said I needed ONLY 1 filling, in addition to dealing with the broken tooth. he saw no need for a cover, just be careful to gargle out the hole. I feel the guy was trying to drum up business and expected me to go along with whatever he wanted. He had no niceties/compassion (which isn't surprising, given what I might assume he likely saw and experienced in Iraq) but unfortunately, he is now in Toronto, where middle aged female patients expect to have things explained to them, and some caring and compassion. My new dentist Dr Metz on Maitland Street explained all of my options clearly, including why an implant is the preferred route. He charges essentially the same, but is caring and communicative.

This review pains me because I've been going to them for almost 5 years without major complaints, until now. Elena, the hygienist, freaked out on me and stopped working mid-way. I ended my cleaning appointment with an incomplete work!I was stunned and at a loss of words. Her behaviour was unprofessional, and the only thing she accomplished was to deepen my sense of stigmatization and increase my trauma and fear of going to the dentist.I used to go to Dr. Wong in Vancouver and he was amazing. When he brought in a new dentist, she was even better, hard to believe! Their bedside manner and calm demeanor helped soothe the fear I have. She would talk to me throughout the entire cleaning and I was distracted enough by her stories to forget the scraping. Plus, they have a tv in each room.Back to Queen St Dental Care. No tvs. I am placed in a sterile, beige room where there is no caltron (the electronic device)! I need to have both the caltron and manual tool to get the dental cleaning job done! The way Elena works makes it very slow and painful. I panicked from the constant scraping in my teeth because it was prolonged. They have no understanding of what a nervous patient is, and thanks to her unprofessional attitude, my fear, which has increased since going to the, is now cemented. She turned around and put the blame on me- making me feel like I did something wrong (by panicking) - by stating how much she was shaking, without acknowledging that I was afraid. My first dentist was a younger lady who was very frigid, with little bedside manner. She left to become a body builder (or was it aerobics competitor?). First big red flag that the people working there do not have the vocation.I am very disappointed and am only returning to get the dental cleaning completed. After this, good-bye to you because there are better dentists. I know, they may be in Vancouver, but there's got to be someone of his same calibre here in Toronto.

UPDATE: I went back and saw Dr. Lupovic about my issue w/ 2 of the 4 fillings I got from Dr. Elena Otrocol and how they were still painful MONTHS after they were filled. He started joking around about how "They're cheap fillings from CHINA" (which to me a) was not funny, and b) borderline racicst?) I told him "it's not really funny, this is my mouth you're joking about". He tried to be serious but the overtone of "joking around" really put me off. Like your so called "dentist" has totally messed up my mouth and you're making jokes about products from China? He proceeded to tell me that there WAS a real issue w/ my fillings first of all, the cavities were so small they didn't even really NEED fillings in the first place, and 2nd of all, apparently 2 of the 4 fillings that were hurting are because the dentist who did the fillings (Dr. Otrocol) messed them up and let some moisture get in them when she was doing them. He proceeded to tell me he's gonna file them down a bit and then if they're still hurting I can go back and get them re-done free of charge by him.HOWEVER, he is really creepy and his weird jokes and demeanor put me off. I don't think I will go back to him to fix them even if it is free because I don't trust these people at all. He proceeded to tell me that this "mistake" only happens in 10% of cases and that it's very rare and 90% of fillings are fine.I'm like, yeah well I had 4 fillings, 2 of them are messed up, and that means only 50% of them were done correctly. He's like pretty much making fun of me/laughing when he says "yes well in your case it's 50%" I honestly feel to report these people to the better business bureau!!! I got a new job w/ benefits so I'm gonna actually just pay another dentist to fix this mess in my mouth. Up until now I only had 3 other fillings in my whole life EVER so I just stand 100% behind the fact that this office is full of crooks and shoddy dentistry. STAY AWAY AND AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!on a sidenote, if anyone can recommend a very good dentist in Toronto please shoot me a line on Yelp!!!!! I am open to suggestions!!! Thanks!

Though the office is beautiful, they need to bring in a lot of money to pay for it. Be prepared for upselling from the doctors. I was told I needed a lot of dental procedures that would cost a lot of money but when I went to a different dental office for a second opinion, the second opinion doctor found many of these procedures totally unnecessary. Needless to say, I won't go to such an expensive office as Queen Street Dental Care wanted to take me to the cleaners.

i came here because it was supposed to be the best in the city. i have a great dentist in new york, but i had a slight emergency one night when a filling popped out of one of my molars. they gladly booked a short appointment for me a few days later and were pretty welcoming at first, but when i sat down the dentist began overstepping his bounds. i've had a lot of dental work done and he was in shock-- asking if i had been abused, had a drug problem, or an eating disorder. i said none of the above, but didn't want to get into my childhood dentistry traumas (i'm already nervous enough going to a dentist i don't know). he continued gaping at my teeth very rudely while he filled the cavity, and then told me he expected to see me back for some intensive work i knew i didn't need. when i went home to my normal dentist, he took an x-ray and began laughing. not in a good way. he projected the x-ray image on the tv screen in his office and showed me that this "great toronto dentist" had left a massive air bubble, only filling the very top of the hole. now i have to get it refilled for a second time. thanks a lot, queen street dental care. i should have just let the empty cavity rot
